Our Day
Good Morning
Welcome Preschoolers… this is YOUR time!!!! We put our belongings on our hooks, find our name to answer the question of the day, and wash our hands. We also take time to greet friends and chat with our buddies. This is a great time for bonding with each other and transitioning to the school setting.
Circle Time
The class gathers on the rug for songs, stories, and finger plays. Teachers use this time to introduce big concepts such as letters, sounds, vocabulary development, number work, and patterns. We also use this time to discuss where the day is headed.
Snack
Alameda Preschool provides a variety of snacks such as fresh fruit, crackers, cheese, and veggies. Occasionally snacks are prepared by the children as a math or science activity.
Centers
We have ALL the awesome preschool staples: blocks, dramatics, housekeeping, a writing table, math manipulatives, a fairy garden, painting, play dough, a touch table, a light table, and almost everyone’s favorite… a look-out loft. While children have “free choice” during this time we also use it for small group projects at the teacher’s table that enhance our current theme.
Kindergarten Readiness
We strive to make the transition to kindergarten as seamless as possible, both socially and academically. Teachers keep a pulse on our Pre-K kiddos, giving special attention to letters, sounds, and number concepts. Socially our goals are for the children to feel safe, to make friends, and to advocate for themselves.
Outside Play
Alameda Preschool sits on a double lot where the children play outside every day. Our classroom flows right into the outdoors so we can see the squirrels and birds and watch the trees change with the seasons. We also get to wave at our parents if they go by for a run! Outside we have a large play structure, a digging patch, and stumps for climbing. There is a path for tricycles and lots of space for running. We have several beautiful trees and Teacher Laura is known for scaling a fence for figs in the fall.
Lunch
Preschool families provide their own lunches. Kids are encouraged to socialize with their tablemates or listen to stories. The children love to hear about the teacher’s day outside of school where we model storytelling and conversation skills.
